It’s [never] over…

Indian cinema has come a long way. Long gone are days of run-of-the-mill masala pot-boilers, formulaic scripts, and cliched melodrama. For the most part, method actors paved way for character actors. The wide moat between real-life and reel-life narrowed over time.

I must proudly say the Thriller/Horror genre within Indian cinema has matured leaps and bounds. If you really fancy to catch one such of bygone era, there can’t be one better than Purana Mandir; from Ramsay house of horror. Aval (2017) – was chilling and brilliant; and in my humble opinion, a level above even Conjuring.

This post is fairly and squarely about Game Over – an absolutely riveting edge-of-seat thriller! It packs creative narration within realms of intelligent visual story-telling. This film warrants focus – you doze, you lose – as the story advances with plenty of show-and-tell facets.

The back-end of 30 minutes is just spectacular. It will engage you at an intriguing level, it will make you think and re-think, question yourself and the storyteller as well. The story intricately weaves real facets of modern-day life and immortal emotions – technology, pacman, parental bonding, body-art, fear, love, courage, et al.

Taapsee as Swapna, a Video Gaming enthusiast and passionate Game Developer steals the show. Tapsee is sheer abundance of talent. A level of talent that seems to bring a rare mix of method and character acting. The character of Swapna gives Tapsee the scope and room to flex her deep acting skills. When yearning for her estranged family yet being content in the love-nest offered by housemaid Kalamma; or when trapped within a shell and traumatized by her past and present – Taapsee simply excels.

Ashwin Saravanan, the storyteller deserves equal accolades, if not more. He spins magic on screen by aptly blending lens, sound, narration, and crisp editing.

If you have a strong heart, watch it at night. If you have a weak heart, do catch it during daytime. If you have a sweetheart, watch it together. It isnt’ worth a miss.
