You are the fan, the moviegoer or the critic. If you peel the first layer of sublime mass and style and sink into the inner layers objectively guided by the second force, I bet you will enjoy the film. On the contrary, if you peel the outer layer and expect to unearth similar layers largely influenced by the first force, you may be left with nothing but disappointment. It’s your choice!
Is it a film worthy of a premium price ticket ? Maybe not for some. In general, it depends on who you ask that question. However we know how demand economics plays a factor into the short-term pricing of a product. The same applies to Rajini brand. When you buy into it at a premium price, you are buying into an experience – anticipating it, and living it. I can certainly vouch for the fact that the experience was indeed fulfilled.
More importantly, I think Kabali is a masterstroke and a great vehicle for The Superstar to transition into next stage of his career. It fits into the cusp very neatly. For now and for a while in the future, no film or single piece of entertainment media would be more scrutinized, analyzed and dissected than Kabali. Those that quickly dismiss the film based on a perception bias, as reported in some sections of social media, may rush to a career obituary of The Superstar for obvious reasons. I reckon Kabali will be celebrated with vigor in the future, if not today.
